D.A.R.E. Project Outreach” -This is the brainchild of the Deputy Chief of the Patrol Division - in keeping with Sheriff Ralph Lopez’s goal of “Commitment To Excellence” within our communities. D.A.R.E. Officers and Bexar County Sheriff’s Office Community Policing Officers are going into the “Housing Projects” and local “Community Centers” to reach kids in two significant ways. (1.) Showing the kids that law enforcement really cares about them – for kids do not care how much you know until they know how much you care. (2.) The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office D.A.R.E. Officers are sharing their valuable classroom D.A.R.E. lessons outside the classrooms and are taking it to the streets so-to-speak. D.A.R.E. officers use interactive learning techniques to teach kids the importance of thinking through things before making a decision. Good decision-making is a key to good citizenship.
