D.A.R.E.
Curriculum
The
D.A.R.E.
curriculum includes the K-4 Visitation Program, the Elementary
(5th/6th grade) curriculum, the Middle School curriculum
(7th/8th grade), the High School curriculum (9th/10th grade) and
the Parent Program.
During the
past two years
D.A.R.E.
America
has funded the development and distribution of a
completely new elementary and middle school curricula and its
associated materials. Development costs of the new elementary
program alone exceeded $3 million dollars.
Unlike
D.A.R.E.,
most drug prevention education programs are royalty based and
schools and communities pay a usage fee. For example, one of the
most popular drug prevention programs collects its royalty by
charging $230 per 30 students for workbooks.
D.A.R.E.
workbooks are provided royalty free and cost (after a subsidy by
D.A.R.E.
America) only .89 cents per student.
D.A.R.E.
America
provides the
D.A.R.E. curriculum free
of charge.
D.A.R.E. Training
D.A.R.E.
Officer training has always been recognized as some of the
finest training available to law enforcement officers.
The two
week, eighty hour

Officer Training (DOT) model certifies each new

Officer to teach the K-4 Visitation Program, the Elementary
curriculum, and the Middle School curriculum.
The new
DOT model also provides the
D.A.R.E.
Officer with School Resource Officer training and certification.
Many of
today’s school resource officer, anti-gang and other drug
prevention programs base their training programs on the training
model established and refined by
D.A.R.E.
Similarly royalty based drug
prevention training programs charge as much as $500 per officer
for a 4-5 day session of training.
Instructor Materials
Every
officer who successfully completes DOT is provided with a
curriculum guide, instructor’s workbook, charts, videos and all
of the other educational materials that are required to teach
the
D.A.R.E.
Program.
Other school based drug
prevention programs charge as much as $400 for a curriculum
guide and additional fees for videotapes and other instructional
materials.
D.A.R.E.
America
provides all instructional materials free of charge.
