Sheriff
Ralph Lopez presents Master Sergeant Xavier Sandoval – Army Instructor at James
Madison High School, Northeast Independent School District with a
Drug
Abuse
Resistance
Education (D.A.R.E.) Community Service Award for his “Commitment To Excellence” in
developing and educating our children. The award was presented on Monday April 2nd,
2007 at a special ceremony at the Eastside substation.
Sheriff Lopez (a former
United States Marine himself) praised MSG Sandoval for his service to his
country and for his continued service to his Community in his role as Army
Instructor for the Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (J.R.O.T.C.) at James
Madison High School. “Programs like D.A.R.E.
and J.R.O.T.C. as well as Fine Arts, Band and Athletics help develop and prepare
our youth to become productive citizens” said
Sheriff Lopez. MSG Sandoval, served with
distinction in the first Gulf War; prior to retiring and going to work at Lanier
High School, San Antonio I. S. D. as an Army Instructor. He was then assigned to
James Madison High School, Northeast I.S.D. For his many years of committed and
dedicated service as an instructor Sheriff
Lopez further recognized MSG Sandoval by making him an “Honorary Deputy
Sheriff” in the Bexar County
Sheriff’s Office. MSG Sandoval
said, “He was just one of many retired military personnel that are working with
our youth in school districts throughout San Antonio and
Bexar County”. MSG
Sandoval praised the J.R.O.T.C. programs of all branches of service relating the
instructors were all committed to helping develop their cadets into good
productive model citizens. MSG Sandoval said he enjoys working with the
Bexar County D.A.R.E. Program as many of his cadets are former
D.A.R.E. graduates. He
too agrees D.A.R.E. Works!
D.A.R.E. & J.R.O.T.C. make a good partnership
designed to help develop our youth today for tomorrow.
